Intensive 4-DAYS WHEEL THROWING SUMMER WEEK with Mijke Anink

July 20 - 23

9:30 - 13:00

In English and/or Dutch

Number of participants: 8 (min. 6)

Our popular multiple-weeks wheel throwing course compressed in 4 consecutive intensive mornings. Come less times, but learn faster. How does it work?

This intensive introduction course into making pottery on the potter’s wheel runs over 4 consecutive days. It is an immersive morning course in which you will learn all the basics you need to be able to make beautiful cups and bowls. It gives each participant the chance to one-on-one learning from a professional potter with more than 20 years teaching experience. It also gives everyone each day plenty of focused time to practice on their own which is essential in the learning process. These two aspects combined make it that the learning curve is very steep and the excitement of making rapid progress is exhilarating.

Each class focuses exclusively on making techniques, the course does not include a glazing class (glazing info see below).

This course at The Clay Table is suitable for complete beginners and intermediate learners and it is an amazing way to spend some free time in a meaningful way. Advanced learners are also most welcome (see below)

Course structure

This course consists of 4 sessions. Each session is a lesson of 3,5 hours (including coffee break and cleaning up at the end of the lesson).

Session 1: Introduction to ceramic materials and the processes of making and firing ceramics, as well as Health & Safety in the studio. You will learn how to prepare your clay and start working on your first project.

Sessions 2-3: Participants continue to work on their projects while the teacher introduces new techniques to build on your skills, including handles, trimming and decorating. Plenty of one-one-one time Wirth teacher but also everyone get to work focused on their own to practice.

Session 4: This session is dedicated to getting your pots ready to be dried and bisque fired. You will be given the choice between 3-4 glazes (studio selection) for the glazing of subsequent glazing of your pots by the studio team. Each participant decides on which learned technique they want to practice during the remaining time (no pots are further kept)

After the course

All pots will be dried in the studio 1-2 weeks, followed by: bisque firing, glazing session by studio team, glaze firing.

Ceramics masking is a slow process and each pottery studio has many processes and different schedules and complex planning of activities which must be taken into consideration. In ours studio this means that all courses have a pickup deadline of (no longer than) 6 weeks.

Important info

Please be sure that you can attend all of the scheduled lesson dates before you sign up. It is also particularly important that you are on time at each session, otherwise you may struggle to keep up with the rest of the group or end up with unfinished projects at the end of the course. It is not possible to get extra sessions if you do not attend your scheduled lesson.
