TILE WORKSHOP

DECORATIVE TILE WORKSHOP IN ENGLISH

Join us for a special 3-hour workshop on making decorative tiles with guest ceramics teacher Ari Libenson.

Next workshops:

July 12

August 23

This workshop teaches you the base of tile-making and tile decorating. You will learn how to create slabs, cut tiles, and learn the gorgeous Sgrafitto decorating technique.

Sgraffito, coming from the Italian word meaning 'to scratch', is an ancient way of decorating commonly used in ceramics. It involves applying clays coloured with pigments and carving out designs.

Ari is a ceramics artist with over ten years of experience working with clay. Since coming to the Netherlands from California two years ago, she has been teaching pottery workshops and enjoys sharing her love of the craft with others.

What you will be making:

2-3 tiles, 10x10 cm.

The number of tiles will vary based on how detailed the Sgraffito designs each participant chooses to make (more details will take longer). Making more or bigger tiles will not be possible.

After workshop:

The process of finishing the tiles will include slow drying, bisque firing, glazing (transparent shinny glaze) by The Clay Table staff, a second firing.
